Hey friends,
We have come to the final week of the year but it’s not over, just yet. The mainstream thing to do would be to reflect and set new goals, but “Throw that nonsense.”
My goals were thrown by a lot of major things. In 2022, I settled my divorce case, got married, lost my dad, and escaped debt. They were not on my list of goals. These were all either unplanned or things that were supposed to happen a long time ago.
So how about this year, instead of setting goals, do one other thing instead. Have no expectations and set anti-goals.
Enjoy life as it is instead. 2023, come to me, let’s tango.
Nas.
“The biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at doing what they most enjoy.”
Malcolm Forbes
Now on to these week’s 5 thoughts and woke ideas.
Expectations can kill you. It is a poison that will leave you numb
I’ve learned that the more you expect from others, the more you deny yourself the possibility of learning something about yourself. Justin Welsh talks about setting anti-goals instead.
He breaks it down into 4 steps.Be honest about yourself and what you don’t like.
Attach a negative statement to each (such as rejecting and saying no),
Attach a How to do that
Execute it.
For me, I don’t like how much fat my body has been taking → 'I’m not going to eat anything and everything → I’m not going to continue eating once I feel full and start taking lesser portions.
Stop obsessing about fitting into the framework, bro. 😎 Stop letting society and social media decide how you should act, wear and do stuff. Instead, be uniquely you.
To-do lists work for me. I’m not saying you shouldn’t plan your life ahead, but things don’t always go along as you plan them. Instead of having big plans, set specific actions and put them on your front view. I have it on the front of my phone's main page. I use Any.do.
Plans will keep changing. Sometimes you can’t help it. I’ve learned the hard way that you can only control one person. You and.. It’s tough.
It’s okay to get emotional from time to time. I get it. Take the next step and learn to regulate your reactions. You’ll be surprised how that will help will managing obstacles along the way.Stop doing work you quietly hate. The number of people complaining about their work situation is staggering. Work that brings them no opportunity, rigid hierarchy, work ethics, and not having more flexibility.
I’ve been through a few corporate jobs to only realize, I’d rather work as a self-employed delivery rider if it meant having less stress on my mind.
If you’re in that position, it’s time to make an exit. Metaverses are coming. Pick up any skill, anything that makes you excited. It’s better than suffering in silence.
Remember in moments and times like this, self-validation is all we need. The rest is just noise. Stay woke. HNY 2023.
