Hey Bro,
There is a time for play, there is a time for rest, there’s a time for work. And then there’s a time for self-discovery.
It’s easy for all these three to happen, but what happens when you stray off the path and go into unchartered territories?
In the past weeks, I got to sit down with both a mentor and we talked about a lot of business opportunities. He was going through his own self-discovery and so am I.
This week alone, I’ve been busy prepping a small home-based printing business with my wife. We’re already getting orders. I skipped 2 weeks of work to reevaluate my work choices. It wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t leave some room for experimentation.
Experiment always,
Nas.
Here’s what you’re getting this week.
Stepping out of comfort zone
Self-care is like filling your car with gas and getting an oil change
Never feel guilty for starting back
Learning new skills like an unplanned adventure
Stepping out of comfort zone.
Going back inside your comfort zone is easy.
I can just lie in bed, watch Netflix, and play games. Simple, right?
But then again, it's important to push yourself because life begins outside the comfort zone.
This is important not only for testing out new ideas but also for self-preservation. Often, we are comfortable with telling ourselves, "This has always worked for me."
Until it doesn’t.
If we conform only to what we know, the "I don't need to do it any other way" mentality, you will need to do it some other way, eventually.
What's comfortable may not actually be safe. Look at Nokia, Look at Kodak.
Anyone who has been doing what they have always done will eventually fall if they don't progress.
If not now when? Will we still be able to stick to the same jobs? Will we still be able to afford a living after the GST hike?
Self-care like filling your car with gas and getting an oil change.
In an article on OprahDaily, author Tara Moore, interviewed experts on what self-care is and how it can be achieved.
Some experts view self-care as things that we do that help us function and thrive. Others say about the things that really light up your brain and give a sense of peace.
Another interesting expert differentiates between faux self-care, which she describes as “the products and solutions and marketed to us as remedies” and real self-care which she sees as a decision-making process.
What I think:
Real self-care happens internally.
It’s important to understand there’s nothing wrong with caring for yourself by doing nothing or watching Netflix as long as you know it helps you recharge and get back.
Everyone has different needs throughout their phases. Pass less judgment.
Never feel guilty for starting back
During this month of fasting, Anytime Fitness, Whatsapp me saying, “Hey, we notice you haven’t been using the gym for some time now. Please reach out to us if you need any assistance”.
I felt this month was so challenging with navigating a new work timing and feeling tired after. So I decided to skip training until it comes back to normal.
It’s okay to change and not follow your usual routine sometimes.
You deserve to take care of yourself and your needs. You have the power to choose what makes you feel good and fulfilled. You are not selfish or lazy, for starting back.
It goes without saying that we’re not just robots that fail when we don’t do what we set out to. That’s part of our feature. We are survivors.
Learn new skills like an unplanned adventure
If you have ever wanted to learn new skills but felt overwhelmed by not being able to commit, here’s a solution.
Have you ever ended up someplace you didn’t intend to, but then you decide, well, let’s just find out what’s here.
By applying the same concept to learning new skills, you can take the pressure away too.
Follow your curiosity and explore whatever interests and dive right in. Don’t worry about the details or end goal. Enjoy the journey and see where it takes you.
What are the things holding you back from learning a new skill? Share them below.
Some other agendas,
working on a Self-care wiki page back end and I intend to launch it in the month’s end and just take it as it goes. This wiki will be free for all subscribers and a pivotal point to go further than this newsletter.
I heard from some subscribers that you want to have me interview some experts in the industry which I think is a great idea! Let me work something out.
