Hey Bros,
October is here. How was your September holidays?
If you’re thinking about grinding back cause you’re out of vacation money, I’ve got a story for you.
The recent lack of job orders has changed the way I look at things from a financial standpoint. I have been grinding slow long days, and there seems to be not much change.
Being a self-employed rider can be worrying because it’s not stable. How bad?
On a bad day, I earned $10 for 3 hours.
I know there are some who lives the grind — work hard play hard don’t quit mentality, but what’s the point of really suffering to maintain a status that you don’t actually need and eventually getting burnout?
How about those who follow the ‘Work Smarter, Play Smarter’ mentality by trying to think of ways to be more efficient in your work? We already live in a hyper-competitive society. You are still required to be focused on your tasks and still work hard.
I’ve got a better one, how about Work Less, Spend Less, Have More Rest.
This year itself, I’ve managed to cut all my monthly expenses from $2400 to about $1400 to account for my unstable income. How?
It’s all got to do with — cutting your expenses.
It also leaves me room to wiggle and be flexible with my earnings. If I don’t earn as I used to, I’m still surviving. Less stress for me.
For those of you who are grinding and thinking of changing jobs, will losing $X amount of money be worth the amount of time you could use to have rest and quality time with your family or yourself?
Instead of trying to take on two jobs, how about re-looking into your budget? Here’s a planner you can follow as a guide.
It’s also about managing needs and wants. What is more important than the other? Rate them from most important to least important. There were many times when I found my needs became wants or good to have but not neccesary.
Do I really need:
a TV channel subscription?
a $120 mobile plan when I can do it with just $30 one with lesser GB?
Follow my friends and put a monthly contribution for some event that I have no time for.
The XXX insurance that I agreed to over a random sales call?
monthly donation to an organization?
some expensive grade of groceries when you can use local brands or Meadows.
expensive surprises instead of quality time for birthdays?
What’s Happening?
I’ve changed location to start working in the central area doing GrabFood.
Wake up at 5:30 am. I ride for about 45 mins and start work at 7 am in Whampoa and on average by 3 pm hit my daily target. It helps better because demands in that area is higher.
Even though I have to wake up early, I get to go home and relax on the sofa, put my feet up and enjoy the rest of the evening. Like now. Yes ah.
If something doesn’t go according to plan, switch it up. Try a new strategy. Don’t be afraid to find new locations to get what you want. Put in the work, bro.
Dian is getting better.
Her eye is looking better from the surgery but she is still recovering. Seeing her eye transition from red to white makes me relieved.
You know the feeling when you are able to care for your partner and see them transition and be a part of that process. These kinds of moments are just priceless, man. Pirate days are almost over.
So looking forward to the days when we can go out like we used to. Our plan to go to JB was interrupted due to the eye but maybe, we can go out soon as she is able to see clearly again.
She says I finally get what I want, which is to see her in her glasses. She’s a contact lens kind of woman.
Practical Tip of the Week
If you are annoyed about not getting something you want, consider looking at the things that you already have going on that’s good. You can do this by doing a gratefulness exercise. Start by thinking of 3 things you are grateful for before you start the week. That will help to start your day better. Remember these 3 things as something tries to rub on your shoulder.
What Else You Need to Know
I’m planning to add new things and I have some great ideas that I want to run by you and I could really use your help. Tell me what you would like to see.
An interesting video on rest and why you get more done when you work less.
